UPSC Age Relaxation for Different Category

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has made a provision for age relaxation for candidates aspiring to appear in the UPSC examinations, which are different for different castes, designed to ensure a level playing field for candidates.

1. General Category

Candidates coming from the General category are not given any kind of age relaxation i.e. general category people can give the UPSC exam 6 times between 21 to 32 years.

2. Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST)

Candidates coming from SC and ST categories get a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit for the UPSC exam and there is no limit of exam for them i.e. between 21 to 37 years SC/ST category people can appear in UPSC as many times as they want Can take the exam.

3. Other Backward Classes (OBC)

OBC candidates are given a relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit for the UPSC exam i.e. OBC candidates can give UPSC exam 9 times between 21 to 35 years.

4. Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)

EWS candidates are not given any relaxation in the age limit for UPSC exams, according to which EWS candidates between 21 and 32 years can appear 9 times.

5. Ex-Servicemen

Ex-servicemen and Commissioned Officers including ECOs/SSCOs may get relaxation in the upper age limit on the basis of their length of service in the Armed Forces.

6. Persons with Disabilities (PWD)

Candidates of persons with disabilities get a relaxation of up to 10 years in the upper age limit depending on the disability category i.e. they can appear for the UPSC exam between 21 to 42 years.

UPSC Age Limit for Female

Like all candidates, the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) age limit for female candidates may vary from post to post and caste to post.

1. For Civil Services Examination (IAS, IPS, IFS, etc.)

  • The minimum age should be 21 years.
  • The maximum age for the General category should be 32 years.

  • The minimum age should be 21 years.
  • The maximum age for the General category should be 30 years.
  • OBC people get a relaxation of 3 years, then the age limit for them should be a maximum age limit of 33 years.
  • SC / ST people get an age relaxation of 5 years, then for them, the age limit should be a maximum age limit of 35 years.
